Werner van der Zwan (1995, NL) is a Dutch artist living and working in Rotterdam.

In his practice he focusses on making kinetic installations and sculptures, made from discarded objects and other things that roam the streets. With robotic interventions, he transforms objects into moving bodies that seem to possess a degree of autonomy.

By giving stray objects human-like movements, he aims to create a certain access, with which the object can be perceived as ‘other’. In this way he explores the how he can break open the dichotomy of subject and object, and how a world can be imagined which is shared with non-human and non-living entities. In installation and theatrical performances these frankenstein-esque creatures get a last breath, revealing their distinct character.
