“Bumping into Memories” is a work departing from the question: What if the mattress suddenly became aware? By attributing the mattress with a sense of awareness, the sculpture speculates about unspoken narratives hidden within our everyday surroundings.
The work was produced in response to Window Shopper, an exhibition taking place at Hilton Art Lab, situated adjacent to and affiliated with the Hilton Hotel Rotterdam. It bumped against the wall separating the Art Lab from the Hotel, establishing a connection with its many peers present behind it.
During our graduation show at HET HEM, the work became part of the installation form of “Life Coaching for the Inanimate”, entering into dialogue with other found objects.
