(collaborative project)
In this opera, I played a role by creating kinetic sculptures that came to life as chacter. One notable scene involved collaborating with Cassandra, one of the characters played by Marije Nie, which whom I developed a captivating narrative where a chair transformed into an oracle.
The olfactory installation “Room to Breathe” was also developed for the opera in collaboration with Maidie van den Bos.
About "Book of Premonitions":
In the enchanting opera "Book of Premonitions," the collective imagination, thoughts, and dreams of 200 eleven and twelve-year-olds are woven together. The central question guiding their creativity: What do you aspire to become? These answers serve as the libretto for a groundbreaking opera set in a future world. Bringing this vision to life is a talented cast of musicians and theater-makers. As a visitor to the performance, you navigate through the venue, encountering kinetic sculptures and interacting with various characters—all suspended in the space between the future and the present. Their singular focus revolves around one haunting theme: a dreadful future.
"Book of Premonitions" is a collaborative endeavor with 200 students from the IVKO Kunstvakschool in Amsterdam. Through intensive workshops, we explored and created new material around the theme of the future and our relationship with time, captured in an operatic score. Under the guidance of the Rizoom Foundation, directors Luke Deane and Christine Cornwell, along with a multidisciplinary team, bring to life this immersive opera based on the students' imaginative contributions.
